Pricey local AI machines arrive as memory costs threaten PC shipments

As soaring memory prices are forecast to cut PC shipments, a new class of expensive machines built to run large AI models locally, from Nvidia's RTX Spark laptops to Apple's Mac Studio and AMD's Ryzen AI Max systems, is arriving at the top of the market, where Gartner says higher memory costs could sharpen the focus on premium devices. Analysts' estimates suggest, however, that Nvidia's own PC business will remain small in the near term.
